Vaccinations

Rabies vaccination
Your dog must have a valid rabies vaccination. After the first rabies vaccination you must wait at least 21 full days before travelling (day 1 = the day after vaccination).

Great Britain Pet Health Certificate
You need a Great Britain Pet Health Certificate issued by a government-accredited vet in the USA. Your dog must enter Great Britain within 10 days of the certificate being issued.

Tests

Rabies antibody titer test (≥ 0.5 IU/ml)
Because the USA is not EU-listed, your dog must pass a rabies antibody blood test showing a level of at least 0.5 IU/ml. The blood sample must be taken at least 30 days after the rabies vaccination. After the blood sample is taken, you must wait 3 months (90 days) before travelling to Great Britain. The test must be carried out by an approved laboratory.

Microchip

Microchip (ISO 11784/11785)
Your dog must be microchipped to ISO 11784 or ISO 11785 standard. The microchip must be implanted before or on the same day as the first rabies vaccination.

Other Requirements

Tapeworm treatment (Echinococcus)
Your dog must be treated for tapeworm (Echinococcus multilocularis) by a vet using a product containing praziquantel or an equivalent proven effective against this tapeworm. Treatment must be given no less than 24 hours and no more than 5 days before you arrive in Great Britain.
